Everyday is a “hang-ten” day in Oxnard, whose endless miles of gorgeous shores (Hollywood Beach and Mandalay Beach among them) give the city its rep as an affordable seaside community.
Locals treat themselves to delicious red fruit when not in Oxnard’s deep blue waters: the annual California Strawberry Festival translates to tacos, pizza, and even beer incorporating the sweet ingredient. There is also a refreshing melting-pot aesthetic here; the NAWLINZ Bistro flushes the streets with Creole flavors, while the Multicultural Festival is jam-packed every year. For fans of well-rounded, relaxed and exciting lifestyle opportunities, Oxnard cannot be ignored.
Much of Oxnard’s cultural energy revolves around the Collection Shopping Center, a Center, a headquarters of outdoor lifestyle fun and the city’s go-to place for intriguing options for dining and entertainment. Locals have noticed an uptick in young professionals throughout Oxnard as well, likely heading here for its balance of budget-conscious living and relatively short commute times.
With around 205,000 people, Oxnard ranks as one of the most populous cities in the country. The city exhibits Hispanic pride, as the group makes up nearly three-quarters of the city’s population.
The city also skews relatively young, with a median age of just over 31 years of age.
Oxnard remains seriously underrated for its treasure trove of experiences that ring the bell of adventure lovers. Silver Strand Beach, for example, should earn much more coverage, given its world-class waves and Instagram-friendly beaches. There are also numerous off-the-radar wineries to enjoy, including Magnavino Cellars (don’t miss “Magnavino After Dark” wine tastings on Friday nights!).
First-time homebuyers gravitate to River Park, for both its great location (adjacent to the Collection Shopping Center) and its affordable listings. The coastal Mandalay Shores and Hollywood Beach enclaves magnetize beach lovers, as does the Marina and its hidden-gem values. The more affluent River Ridge area ups its appeal with a popular, well-manicured golf course.
Oxnard stands out best for its array of top-notch private schools. The Mary Law Private School, for example, offers a great learning environment for kids Pre-K through 6th grade; there’s also an infant care center for babies 3 months and older. New Harvest Christian School and Peppermint Junction also earn plaudits from Oxnard parents.
